Learning to be a better Driver

Some people drive how they want, completely disrespecting and ignoring the safety and well-being of others around them, and those that they invite to be a passenger in their own death trap. We have all witnessed a situation happen on the road where one or more drivers actually got worked up at the disregard for the rules of the road. There are usually hand gestures made, honking of horns, and sometimes, people will chase after that bad driver to hunt them down and give them a good fist shake or yelling at. I can understand the frustration. We are all precious cargo. Watching someone drive like a maniac and driving by their own rules is a direct threat on your life. No wonder it would spark the reaction it does in the angry onlookers.

I think that it’s important that we educate ourselves, and freshen up on the rules of the road for our own personal safety. We need to be educated ourselves in order to teach the new drivers of our times, what is acceptable and what is not. I think that just as importantly, we really need to brush up on etiquette of the road as well. The way we treat each other in society, and on the road, is disgusting. We have to be nicer to one another to make the world a better place. Being nice to those on the road will improve our world even more.

If we all slowed down, paid attention both to what you’re doing on the road first, and to those driving around you second-all the while acknowledging and abiding the road signs,-we would all increase the chances of each and every one of us making it home safely at the end of the day. At the same time, we would be decreasing the amount of motor vehicle accidents and related deaths that occurs each and every day.

Have compassion for your fellow drivers, even if they aren’t driving by the book. In doing so, you can help yourself by not giving into road rage and displaying your passion behind their stupidity face-to-face and wheel-to-wheel.

If everyone who ever step foot behind the wheel of a vehicle woke up and paid attention to ourselves and our own space on the road, we would be giving ourselves and the others driving around you the respect that is deserved by all. We all share the world and the roads in it. We all share the responsibility to make those roads safe. And we all share the requirement from society, the law, and one another to educate ourselves and other drivers on the rules of the road, and how to abide by them.

So the next time you’re standing at the water cooler at work, or just trying to break the silence in a social situation, the topic of bad drivers is always a winner. Just be prepared to shake your head at all the stories of stupid people behind the wheel.
