You can start bidding immediately after registration. An email will be sent to you with your auction login information so you can start bidding right away!
What is preliminary bidding?
Preliminary bidding establishes the starting price for the internet-only virtual sale. Buyers who are outbid receive an email notification and are provided the opportunity to re-bid on the vehicle. Preliminary bids are accepted 24 hours a day and until 1 hour before the virtual auction begins. The highest preliminary bid will compete against virtual bids via BID4U during Virtual Bidding.
How do I get to the bid entry page for preliminary bidding?
You place your preliminary bids on the Vehicle Detail page. To get to the Vehicle Detail page, select the Vehicle Finder tab. You can search for vehicles using the vehicle finder, vehicle locations or virtual sales calendar. All these options will display the Vehicle Detail page where you can place a bid.
Virtual bidding is the process of submitting live bids over the Internet during a Copart VB2 Virtual Sale. Buyers may log onto their Member Account and select Virtual Sales under the Home Menu tab to submit bids electronically, in real time over the Internet, to compete with other virtual bids.
How do I bid in the virtual sale?
To join a Virtual Sale you must click on the Virtual Sales link within your Member account and load the appropriate sale window. There are three buttons in the bidding window that will help you place your bid. You can place a valid next increment bid or jump ahead by placing a valid five-increment or a ten-increment bid.

How can I see all my previously entered bids?
From the Member Home tab, select Current Bids. Your top bid on each lot is displayed.
How long can I check my bids?
Under the Bid Status Menu tab, bids will appear on the Current Bids page until the vehicle is sold. Once the vehicle is sold, the bid will appear on the Lots Won page if the vehicle was awarded to you. If the vehicle was not awarded to you, the bid will appear on the Lots Not Won page.

I just received an email stating that I lost the bid, but my bid amount was the same as the winning amount. Why did I lose?
We do our best not to allow ties to happen. However, when they do, it is Copart's policy to award the vehicle to the virtual bidder, not the preliminary bidder. Utilize the Bid Increment option to prevent a tie.
How do I counter bid a seller's minimum offer?
Click the lot display link under the Open Items page. You will then be given the options to accept the seller's minimum, keep your current bid or counter bid for the selected lot.
What is interactive online counter bidding?
Counter bidding may occur when the vehicle seller has placed a minimum bid or bid-to-be-approved (BTBA) restriction on a vehicle. If you are the high bidder, the seller may accept your bid or counter your bid.
Buyer Power is your ability to place bids according to your security deposit. Buyer Power has 2 parts: the number of vehicles, and the dollar amount. Security deposit of $400 allows you to bid on 1 vehicle up to $4000. Each vehicle count has to have its own $400 security deposit. For example: $800 security deposit will allow you to purchase 2 vehicles for a total value of $8000. OR, $800 security deposit can allow you to purchase 1 vehicle for a total value of $8000.
Copart uses BID4U to make the bidding process easier and more efficient. BID4U represents the highest preliminary bidder during the virtual sale. Simply enter the maximum price you are willing to pay for the vehicle during preliminary bidding and BID4U will bid on your behalf up to your maximum bid during preliminary bidding and during the virtual sale. BID4U will only bid one increment over the current bid to maintain your position as the highest bidder. This allows you to purchase a vehicle below your maximum bid if bidding does not meet or exceed your maximum bid. If you select the bid increment option, BID4U will bid one additional increment over your maximum bid to break a tie. If a bidder with a higher maximum outbids you, Copart notifies you via email. As a security precaution, no one, including Copart associates can see your maximum bid. It is 100% confidential!
What is increment bidding?
Increment bidding authorizes Copart to increase your bid by one and only one increment if a live virtual bidder matches your preliminary bid. Your bid will not be incremented if it is the highest bid.
How will I know if my bid was the highest bid?
Under the Bid Status Menu tab, your bid will display as the highest bidder on the Current Bids page. You will also receive email confirmation of your highest bid.
What is Copart Night Cap sales?
“Night Cap sales” give buyers more opportunities to bid on vehicles at Copart auto auction. Night Cap sales are held at 6 pm PST (9 pm EST) Monday through Thursday and include the vehicles that did not sell in the regular sale.
Night Cap sales allow for vehicles to be on sale more quickly than if buyers had to wait for the next scheduled sale in that facility.
If the vehicle did not sell during the regular sale, then the vehicle enters the 2nd-chance bidding period, it will also be added to a Night Cap sale. Buyers are able to place preliminary bids on the vehicle until the live Night Cap sale the next evening. If the vehicle goes into 2nd-chance bidding on a Thursday or Friday, the Night Cap sale will be held Monday.
A vehicle is removed from a Night Cap sale if it is sold during 2nd-chance bidding. Conversely, if preliminary bids received in the Night Cap sale reach the seller’s current minimum bid, the vehicle is removed from 2nd chance bidding and will continue to receive bids
in the Night Cap sale.
There are 4 Night Cap sales held simultaneously at 6 pm PST (9 pm EST) Monday through Thursday. Each sale includes vehicles located in different regions: Pacific (includes HI and AK), Central, Mountain and Eastern.
