If Possible, Inspect Before You Buy

Learn the History
Even a visual inspection won’t tell you everything, only a Vehicle History Report can do that. All reports are based upon the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). When you buy a report make sure the data comes from The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), which is a program of the U.S. Department of Justice. The VIN number number appears on multiple places such as the driver-side doorpost and on the dashboard on the driver’s side next to the windshield. Alternatively, their free license plate lookup can reveal important information about a vehicle, such as its registration status, accident history, and even its previous owners.
